Leif Erikson International Festival has, for the Bicentennial celebration of the Norwegian Immigration, commissioned a musical work by composer Tore Johansen, with text written by Gracia Grindal.

The text tells the dramatic living conditions for the first Norwegian Immigrants, but also includes their strong faith.

Tore Johansen's music resembles his work Requiem, "Shine on Them", which is a homage to the victims of the Utøya terror in 2011.

His music has elements from jazz and classical choir traditions. In this work, Tore Johansen also uses elements from American hymn tradition and folk music.
